Welcome to the New Women’s Head Coach!

Neumann has been a successful coach at the youth, high school, and college level in Alabama during two spells.  As an assistant coach at Birmingham-Southern College between 1993 and 1996 working with FC Birmingham Men’s Head Coach Preston Goldfarb, he helped the program win their first district and area championship leading to their first final NAIA Final Four appearance.

In the same period, he helped Mountain Brook High School Girls program with their first state championship in 1994.  Besides playing for the Birmingham Grasshoppers in the USISL from 1993 to 1996 he also became General Manager in early 1995 and expanded corporate partnerships with prominent Birmingham entities. He also served as a coach for the Alabama ODP program in its infancy in 1995/96.

In 2000 after a hiatus from the game he returned to coach the Women’s soccer program at Gwynedd Mercy University in Philadelphia. Taking over after the program’s first year in 1999 he led the program to success both in and out of the classroom. In 4 years, he had a .681 winning percentage including one conference title, another final and two semifinal appearances leading to further post season play in the NCAA and ECAC playoffs. He was recognized as conference coach of the year in 2001.

Off the pitch the team was the only team in the eleven team conference to be recognized each year by United Soccer Coaches for Academic success of a team GPA above 3.0.  In addition, the team was recognized for its sportsmanship by EPISODA, the governing officiating association in Eastern Pennsylvania.

After returning to Alabama in 2004 and working in corporate finance for a major magic city bank he worked within the youth game helping children age 3-18 including as both a Director of Coaching at Trussville between 2004-06 and Interim Executive Director at Hoover Soccer club between 2011-12.  In recent years he has coached at Vestavia Soccer club including a period as Academy Director and primarily as a staff coach with both boys and girls leading to state cup final four appearances.

In addition, between 2009 and 2010 he served as the Girls interim high school head soccer coach for John Carroll helping them to playoff success.  Between 2009 and 2013 he served as Alabama Soccer Association ODP and coach education coordinator including two occasions where he served as the bridge to the new Director of Coaching.

Besides his role locally as a coach educator he has impacted thousands of coaches who have taken over 100 courses he’s taught as a member of the United Soccer Coaches National Academy Staff and National Goalkeeper Staff. Countless more coaches have benefitted from his time as a United Soccer Coaches and U.S. Soccer Grassroots Instructor. He has served as United Soccer Coaches Alabama and Mississippi State Director.  In addition, he has been a clinician at multiple United Soccer Coaches Conventions.

Neumann was honored as United Soccer Coaches National Co-Associate Coach in 2011. In 2018 he was named as the recipient of the prestigious Mike Berticelli Excellence in Coaching Education Award, named after the former University of Notre Dame and United Soccer Coaches Director of Coaching. Neumann was the first award winner not to work full time in soccer for the national educator award in recognition of positive contributions to the game of soccer and excellence in educating coaches.

In 2022, he received the United Soccer Coaches Letter of Commendation is presented to a recipient for their service to, impact on, and/or positive influence on the association and/or the game of soccer in the United States.

He was the first coach to earn the USSF A, USSF Y, USSF National Goalkeeper and USSF Grassroots Instructor License in Alabama.
